Holiday Inn Cardiff North M4 Jct 32 by IHG
Free-parking rooms beneath a historic Welsh castle
O tym hotelu
Holiday Inn Cardiff North sits at Junction 32 of the M4 in Tongwynlais, tucked beneath the scenic Castell Coch, roughly twenty minutes' drive from central Cardiff and fourteen miles from Cardiff Airport. Free parking is included, which suits a family driving in with a car full of pool bags rather than paying for a city-centre space. Rooms come with air conditioning, satellite TV and free tea and coffee, and the restaurant and lounge bar serve meals through the day using locally sourced produce. Note that the hotel's own swimming pool is currently closed for refurbishment, expected to reopen in February 2027, so this base suits families relying on Cardiff International Pool itself rather than an on-site swim. The Brecon Beacons and Rhondda Valley sit north of the hotel for a change of scene beyond the pool days.
- Free parking at Junction 32
- Beneath Castell Coch
- Restaurant and lounge bar on site

This suits families driving in from further afield who want free parking and an easy M4 arrival, with Castell Coch as a bonus for a rest-day detour. The current pool closure means this isn't the base for a hotel that supplements pool days with its own swim, so plan around Cardiff International Pool itself for all your swimming. Families without a car may find the twenty-minute drive into the centre less convenient than a central base.
- ✓Confirm the on-site pool's refurbishment status before booking if a hotel pool matters to your stay.
- ✓Take advantage of the free parking rather than paying for a space closer to central Cardiff.
- ✓Plan a detour to Castell Coch on a rest day, since it sits right beside the hotel.

We knew ahead of time the hotel pool was closed for refurbishment, so we planned entirely around Cardiff International Pool itself, which worked out fine once we accepted the twenty-minute drive each morning. Castell Coch next door was a nice surprise on our one rest day.
