Landhaus Nordhelle
An indoor pool at the Sauerland's high point
About this hotel
Landhaus Nordhelle sits close to Nordhelle itself, the highest point in the Sauerland, in a former conference-centre building that trades resort polish for a genuinely quiet, forested setting a drive from AquaMagis. The property's own indoor pool gives families a second swimming option on the days a full water park session feels like too much, or when the weather turns and a shorter drive to a covered pool makes more sense than the trip out to Plettenberg. Breakfast is included as standard, useful given how little is open nearby before a morning outing, and the wider amenity list, a fitness centre, bar, restaurant, airport shuttle and full-service laundry, is unusually complete for a countryside property this far from the town centre. Pet-friendly rooms and free parking round out a stay built for families splitting time between forest trails and pool days.

Our take
Landhaus Nordhelle suits a family who wants to alternate AquaMagis with forest walks near Nordhelle and appreciates an indoor pool back at the hotel for quieter days. It suits less well a family wanting to walk to the water park directly, since the drive out here trades that convenience for a genuinely rural, high-Sauerland setting instead.
- ✓Pack for forest walks as well as pool days, since Nordhelle's trails start close to the property itself.
- ✓Use the airport shuttle if arriving without a car, a genuine convenience this far into the countryside.
- ✓Book the indoor pool time slot in advance if the hotel operates one during busier holiday weeks.
Why we love it

Why guests love itWe used Landhaus Nordhelle as a base for both AquaMagis and forest walking, and the indoor pool turned out to be the detail we used most: a calm swim after a hike rather than a full water park session most days. Breakfast being included meant we could set off early for Nordhelle's trails without hunting for anywhere open nearby, and the fitness centre gave the adults something to do on the one evening we skipped the drive to AquaMagis.
