The Erskine Arms
A Georgian coaching inn with its own bar
About this hotel
The Erskine Arms keeps its ten rooms across three floors in a genuine Georgian coaching inn, with open fireplaces and a bar serving homemade, locally sourced British food and Sunday roasts alongside local ales and a wine list. Every room has a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with free toiletries and a hairdryer. Conwy rail station is a one-minute walk and a bus stop sits opposite the property, making a car-free lagoon trip workable if a rental is picked up locally instead. Conwy Castle is three hundred metres away and Deganwy Castle 2.3 kilometres, with Bodnant Garden six kilometres out for a rest-day visit.
- Sunday roasts available
- En suite bathrooms
- Local ales and wine list
Our take
The Erskine Arms suits families or couples who want a proper on-site bar and kitchen rather than driving out again after a lagoon day. The Georgian building and open fireplaces give it more character than a standard inn, though the ten-room size means it can book out quickly in busy weeks.
- ✓Book the on-site bar for dinner in advance during school holidays, since the Sunday roast and locally sourced menu are popular with returning lagoon-day guests.
- ✓Reserve early given the ten-room size, particularly around British school holidays when Conwy fills up fast.
- ✓Use the one-minute walk to Conwy rail station if arriving without a car, picking up a rental locally for the Dolgarrog run.
Why we love it
- Georgian coaching inn with open fireplaces
- On-site bar with locally sourced food
- Three hundred metres from Conwy Castle
- One-minute walk to the rail station
Why guests love itWe ate at the on-site bar both nights of our stay, and the Sunday roast lived up to the locally sourced menu the staff described when we checked in. The open fireplace made the evening after a cold, wet lagoon session properly cosy, and being three hundred metres from Conwy Castle meant we filled our rest-day morning without needing the car at all.
