Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh
Grand downtown stay across from Point State Park
About this hotel
This grand downtown hotel sits directly across from Point State Park, with the Andy Warhol Museum and Heinz Field both within five minutes' drive, a strong base for a family pairing Sandcastle with real Pittsburgh sightseeing. The Three Rivers Restaurant serves American cuisine through breakfast, lunch and dinner, and two full-service bars give the adults a proper cocktail after a day spent mostly supervising a lazy river. A 24-hour fitness centre and business centre round out the property, and the Duquesne Incline is 1.2 kilometres away for a scenic city view on a day away from the water park. The property's own staff are consistently well rated for helpfulness, useful when a tired family needs a quick answer at check-in.

Our take
This suits a family wanting a genuinely grand downtown base with Point State Park at the doorstep, alongside a Sandcastle day that requires a real drive out to West Homestead. It is not the pick for a family wanting to be steps from the park's gates. This is a solid pick for a family who has already decided which side of the trip, the park or the city, matters more.
- ✓Walk across to Point State Park before or after a Sandcastle day for a scenic, low-effort city outing.
- ✓Book the Three Rivers Restaurant for dinner on the evening you arrive, before the first full waterpark day.
- ✓Try the Duquesne Incline on a rest day for a view over the city that does not require another swimsuit.
Why we love it
- Directly across from Point State Park
- Two full-service bars on site
- 24-hour fitness centre
- Close to the Duquesne Incline
Why guests love itWalking straight out to Point State Park after checking in set a nice tone for the trip before the family even got to Sandcastle the next day. The Three Rivers Restaurant handled a proper dinner without hunting for somewhere else once everyone was tired from travel, and the Duquesne Incline made for an easy, low-key outing on the one day we skipped the water park entirely.
