Why guests love itThe courtyard at Hotel Monopol, all plants and nineteenth-century tile, is why we keep coming back rather than the room itself, which is fine but unremarkable. Being steps from Plaza del Charco meant dinner was never more than a short walk, and the heated pool and jacuzzi made an evening soak possible even on a cooler March night. Lago Martiánez itself took us about eight or nine minutes on foot, easy enough to do twice a day. It won't wow you, but the character in that courtyard is real.
